Lansing, Mich.—As the Michigan Republican Party and Michigan Federation of College Republicans prepare and organize for the 2022 election, the victories for Republicans in 2020 must not be forgotten:

  • The Michigan Republican Party maintained its State House majority, which many pollsters said would not occur. This was a huge victory to hold Governor Whitmer accountable these next two years. The MFCR is excited for Speaker Jason Wentworth’s leadership.

  • Electing Congresswoman Lisa McClain (MI-10) and Congressman Peter Meijer (MI-3), Michigan gained conservative leaders for East and West Michigan. The MFCR is looking forward to the work and experience both leaders bring.

  • For our College Republicans, the Michigan Republican Party gained three university governing body seats, one at each the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University. This was a huge victory for our college students who need allies in administration.

  • The MFCR held key deployments and phone banking efforts this cycle. Many chapters brought noteworthy speakers to their chapters and worked hard to spread conservatism on their campuses. The College Republicans in Michigan are only growing.

Looking into 2021 and 2022, the MFCR understands there is more work to be done in Michigan.

  • The Michigan Republican Party must take back all four of our statewide offices and elect four solid Republicans.

  • The party lost congressional district 11 by only 2.4% and district 8 by 3.6 %. These seats can be returned to Republicans, especially with the help of our CRs.

  • The MFCR is ready to expand and develop its chapters this year and record fundraise.

  • Several CRs will attend CPAC this month and in April the federation will host its first ever women’s conference.

Thank you to our College Republicans for all their handwork and commitment to promoting conservative principles. The federation is eager to work with the Michigan Republican Party to grow our youth support and presence across the state. The MFCR congratulates Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser on his recent election to lead the party these next two important years.
